The candidate has experience in university-based research and education, as well as national policy development. She specializes in plant biology, genetics, biotechnology, plant germplasm management and utilisation. She is most interested in developing traditional and underutilized crop species such as cocoa, hot pepper and anthuriums, as a way of promoting economic diversification and increased food security for the Caribbean region. From 2014-2016, she served as the National Co-ordinator for the implemenation of the Biosafety framework. She has attended numerous training sessions on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago in her role as co-ordinator including risk assesment, public communication, use of the BCH and laboratory testing of GMO events. Since then, she continues to provide advice and training to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago and its officers, as well as to other Governments in the Caribbean.
